Senitel Communications was formed as a division of Jack Koenig & Associates (consultants to business and industry since 1976) shortly after Congress passed the 1996 Telecommunications Act. Although its stated mission was to seek out and provide reduced phone rates for clients of Jack Koenig & Associates, it soon expanded its services to include non-client businesses and residential users.
As the move towards freedom from AT&T, MCI, and Sprint gained momentum, alternate carriers such as Qwest and Global Crossing (a combination of Frontier and a few others) began pouring billions of dollars into plant, equipment, and fiber optics to meet long term projections. In addition, they recognized this as an opportunity to create new sales channels for addressing the growing and changing telecommunications needs of the Nation.
To supplement their traditional inside marketing operations, these dynamic companies allowed independent agents to provide customers through a new channel called the Master Agent. The Master Agent’s responsibility was not only to interface between the carriers and the independent agents, but also perform carrier negotiations, credit and collection activities, and customer service.
Master Agents used by Senitel include Unitel, Qwest, PEC, PNG, Opex, Capsule Communications, and Cognigen.
