• Do they require a minimum usage?
• A minimum charge?
• A line charge?
• Member fees?
• Is it a “teaser” rate or is it permanent?

Use the following check list and you will generally maintain a tight control over your phone bills:

• Always review your long distance rates at least once every six months since carriers have a habit of sneaking in rate changes with little or no notification.

• Review several of your most recent bills to determine if you have a calling pattern.
• If you find yourself habitually calling in the evening, Worldcom has a great service called "Home Advantage"
• If you insist on staying with more expensive carriers such as AT&T or MCI, check into their "bonus" plans. You may be able to negotiate frequent flyer miles or other similar sort of bonus.
• Don't overlook your international charges. Many carriers charge an excessive amount for these services.
